Know when to STOP

Stopped Bus

The Gallipolis City School District continues to see vehicles drive past our stopped school buses that are picking up and discharging students.  Our students safety is our top priority and we need your help to ensure they arrive at school and home safely.

The following graphic is a visual representation of when drivers must stop for a school bus in the state of Ohio:

  • On a road with fewer than four lanes, all traffic approaching a stopped school bus from either direction must stop at least 10 feet from the front or rear of the bus and remain stopped until the bus begins to move or the bus driver signals motorist to proceed.
  • If the bus is stopped on a street with four or more lanes, only traffic proceeding in the same direction as the bus must stop.
